Resin Driveways – because we love them

You may have noticed a rise in your neighbours getting their driveways sorted recently. You may have also noticed that more than a few of those new driveways are resin or stone. Resin driveways are an exciting growing trend in the UK, and we love them too! We love transforming tatty old concrete drives into something rather special.

Why Resin Driveways?

In simple terms, they are made by mixing natural stone aggregates with a sturdy resin to create a surface that’s not only lovely to look at but practical too. Resin-bound driveways are where the stones are mixed with resin before being laid, giving you a smooth finish without loose stones. Perfect if you have got kids who like to cycle on the drive and they’re also a lot more wheelchair friendly.

Concrete and tarmac is your standard drive but it isn’t exactly designed to have that WOW factor. Resin driveways come in a wide selection of colours and designs.

Surprisingly Eco-Friendly

The UK weather being as unpredictable as ever, flooding has become a real headache in many parts of the UK. Resin-bound driveways are permeable, meaning:

  • They comply with those SuDS regulations the council keeps banging on about.
  • Rainwater drains through rather than creating massive puddles or running into the street.
  • You don’t need planning permission for them like you might with concrete.

British weather isn’t exactly kind to our driveways, between the endless rain, occasional snow, and those three days of summer heat we get each year, traditional drives take a proper beating.

Resin driveways, however, are tough and can handle it:

  • No more pulling weeds from between paving slabs on your hands and knees.
  • No worrying about oil stains from that dodgy motor you are meaning to fix.
  • No cracks appearing after a particularly nasty frost.
  • Just give it a once-over with the pressure washer every now and then.

Quick and painless

A traditional driveway installation, as you may know, can be a big disruption to your normal lives. For example, workmen hanging about for days, your car stuck on the street and enough dust to make your neighbours think you are demolishing the place.

Most resin driveways can be done and dusted in a couple of days, and you can usually walk on them after just a few hours.

What we think is next for resin driveways

The technology keeps getting better, with new mixes that are even more hard-wearing and environmentally friendly. With more extreme weather on the horizon, and the British obsession with home improvements showing no signs of waning, resin driveways look set to become as common as wheelie bins on our streets. Whether you are fed up with a cracked concrete nightmare or just fancy giving your house that WOW factor, it might be worth giving us a call.
